Identifying Bosdet Windows

The windows are usually signed in the lower right corner “H T Bosdet” with a date, generally between 1890 & 1920, and sometimes with a studio name such as Inglewood, Chiswick, or Bishopswood, Hampstead, Hendon. The signature can be so close to the corner it may be partially obscured by the surrounding masonry, or it could be some way inwards from the lower right corner, and on a dark background, such as a leaf, and therefore not clear to see.

The glass colours frequently include deep rich “ruby” reds, deep blues, greens, and purples, and occasionally amber or turquoise. The faces, hands, and feet are exquisitely drawn, and all the faces have individual character.

There is frequently background detail depicting buildings, flora and fauna, and other relevant objects or scenes. There is some consistency of patterns on embroidered garments.

A short time spent browsing the pictures on this website, including clicking on them for the enlarged version, would depict the style. If you think you may know a new location of a Bosdet window, please contact the webmaster by e-mail at pierre@pnbxl.com.
